Your room is adorable! I am a special education teacher who mainly taught in small groups but am now moving more into the role of a self contained room. Do you have any special morning routines that you could share with me?
Hi Ashley,
Thank you so very much! Of course I would share my morning routine with you. Of course I have to modify it each year as my kiddos disabilities are always changing but my routine is: Arrival: Backpacks away, communication folder in bin (I really stress making them do this for independence) then we "sign in" (they trace their names in their sign in folder) then they may go to the "reading station" or puzzle station or I will put out some type of manipulative/fine motor activity for them to do while I take role and get organized by going through backpacks to check for notes, etc... after that we have clean-up, then it is off to morning meeting time. We sing our good morning song, by Dr. Jean, Months of the year, days of the week, calendar, 100 days chart, weather, and who is here. I really love doing the who is hear with them. I need to get language out of my students and this is a good way for them to learn name recognition, alphabet, sounds letters make etc... After that we do our "letter of the week" and then the alphabet sound song where they get a mat that I made that goes along with the song and they get to choose a pointer and sit down and point to the letters as we sing the song. After that it is off to our first small group rotations. I hope this helps??? If not, email me and I will send you a complete copy of my daily schedule and any other ideas that you need! I am always willing to help and share!
Thank you so much!
