The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything VS The Big Green Monster

Okay, I was look for ideas for the book " The Big Green Monster" and as I blog stalked (as I am always doing) I of course became distracted.  VERY easily for me to do as I am beginning to think that perhaps I have BLOG ADHD! I love to use the book, "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything" and came across this writing activity originally posted by Collen Gallagher @ www.teachingheart.net.  I used her idea and modified it for my students so I thought I would share.  In fact, I am going to make one for every book I do now.  I LOVE this idea.  It really touches on so many Core Standards.  Print awareness, sequencing, matching.....

I start out by reading the book while my Kindergarten students follow along with me while I read the book and use my magnetic board pieces.  After reading the book several times, I give each student an instrument to use that represents the sound of the "clap, clap" or "stomp. stomp" etc... and every time we say that phrase they get to make the sound that goes along with it.  What child does not like to make noise?  Even my students with Autism love this believe it or not!

Hopefully you will enjoy my little freebie... now BACK to The Big Green Monster!!!

Freebie Monday!

Another little "Candy Corn" Freebie.  Yes, I really do like Candy Corn.  I know so many of you have expressed how you don't really care for them but I am one of the few who really do!  So, here is the Candy Corn Alphabet that I will be using with my students.  I will introduce the letters to them, then they will use them in an independent station to put all the letters in order.

Happy Halloween!

Another little FREEBIE!

I am on a "ROLL" here.... I LOVE this time of year and Halloween has to be one of my favorite holidays to celebrate.  Of course, I celebrate the "CUTE, FUN and YUMMY" stuff not the scary stuff.  I have been making a Halloween Unit and since my little special kinders need SO MUCH Fine Motor skills, I thought I would make a Halloween Trace the line page and Scissor Skills page.  My kiddos are so low academically this year that we need to practice these skills everyday.  I have a few that can write their names but my Non-verbal kiddos still cannot hold a writing tool with a pincer grasp.  They are still using the fist grasp.  Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither were my Kinders!  We are plugging along!  Thought some of you could use this for a "fill-in" when they finished their work faster than the others.  No matter what skills you have, you can always "Fine Tune" the ones you got!  At least that is what I tell my students! Enjoy!

I don't know why I have such difficulty posting on here.  Sometimes it will post the picture and sometimes it will not.  Also I notice when googledocs downloads my documents, they appear smaller.  ANY HELP FROM THE DOWNLOAD GURU'S would be so appreciated!  :-)

Haunted House Halloween Counting Mats FREEBIE!!

I found these cute little bat and ghost erasers in the Target Dollar Spot and wanted to make some kind of counting Mats for my students.  This is what I came up with.  Please enjoy the free download.

Happy Halloween!

Five Little Pumpkins

I just found this ADORABLE slide show that goes along with a printable book for my students to use/color/follow along with.  I thought I would share with everyone (if you have not already seen it).  I can't wait to use it in my class this week!

Farmyard Freebie!

I have been doing a farm unit this week and have been working on my own "farm unit".  I have to keep my ideas pretty simple due to the type of class I teach but I think with any 5 year old, I have found they LOVE to roll the dice.  I decided to make some so they wouldn't go flying across the table, take an eye out or hit me in the head (at least if they do, it won't hurt as much since they are made out of cardstock!)  Here is the first FREEBIE of my unit with more to come!  Please feel free to leave a comment! :-)

We are LOVING our DonorsChoose.org items!

My students cannot get enough of "playing" with our new kitchen sink and dressing carousel.  Every minute they are asking me, "When is it time to play in the kitchen"?  I love it. (Although I am STILL the one that has to put away the dishes just like at home!)  I am so thankful to the DonorsChoose.org website for accepting my project and to ALL my wonderful friends, family and anonymous donors that made this project possible.

Halloween Word Freebie!

Trying to put together my Halloween Unit for my Kinder Class and decided to make a Halloween Word sheet that I will be cutting and laminating.  I will use it in my pocket chart center.  I am making several copies and the kiddo's will have to match the words.  Hope you enjoy the freebie!

MIA... and Back to School Night

Although I have been MIA on the postings, I still have been a daily "blog stalker"!  I cannot believe how much I rely on your blogs  for fabulous ideas and information.  I would not be able to be a successful teacher without all of you.  I truly LOVE each and every one of your blogs.  Thank you!!

We are having Back to School Night tomorrow (I know, it is really late this year) but I made a new information sheet to share with my parents and thought I would share it with you.  PLEASE, I would LOVE any feedback from any of you.  If you can believe it, this is my FIRST ever Back to School Night.  I am fairly nervous but all the other teachers at my school are telling me I am going way over board but I like to be prepared!  I also have made a card that I am attaching to a cupcake to give to each of my parents.  I just want them to know that I truly care for each and everyone of my students and I am committed in providing them with the best I know how!
