The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything VS The Big Green Monster

Okay, I was look for ideas for the book " The Big Green Monster" and as I blog stalked (as I am always doing) I of course became distracted.  VERY easily for me to do as I am beginning to think that perhaps I have BLOG ADHD! I love to use the book, "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything" and came across this writing activity originally posted by Collen Gallagher @ www.teachingheart.net.  I used her idea and modified it for my students so I thought I would share.  In fact, I am going to make one for every book I do now.  I LOVE this idea.  It really touches on so many Core Standards.  Print awareness, sequencing, matching.....

I start out by reading the book while my Kindergarten students follow along with me while I read the book and use my magnetic board pieces.  After reading the book several times, I give each student an instrument to use that represents the sound of the "clap, clap" or "stomp. stomp" etc... and every time we say that phrase they get to make the sound that goes along with it.  What child does not like to make noise?  Even my students with Autism love this believe it or not!

Hopefully you will enjoy my little freebie... now BACK to The Big Green Monster!!!
